Grow
Reflection:
I am a grower. Growing is in my roots! I come from a family of growers. Growing keeps me close to the land - to the Earth. Last month - I did a mediation on the word “humble.” I was reading that this term has its connections with the term “humus” meaning “earth”. Moving from my grounding and earthy reflections of yesterday where I spent time reaching my roots into the core of this earth, today, I reach up to the sky. I reflect on and celebrate growth. It’s out of humbleness - I grow - feeling secure and solid, with my feet firmly planted, I reach upward towards the light.
The last few years for me have been characterized by this word. I have been growing and growing in many ways and in all of the various nuances of this beautiful term. I have personally grown holistically: my body has grown stronger and healthier, my mind has grown cleaner and clearer, and my spirit has grown deeper and more aware. And my growth in these personal ways, has encouraged growing in my life in another way.
A few years ago, I set a goal for myself; a going green one. Part of this plan involves growing all of my own greens. As a mostly low-fat raw vegan, I eat a lot of greens; and so, this is no small challenge. As of now, I grow most of my greens by the way of my indoor garden: growing a steady supply of microgreens and sprouts. I do also have outdoor gardens where I grow some of the basic herbs that I use like thyme, rosemary, nettle, peppermint, chamomile, and oregano. And in these garden I do grow fruits and vegetables too.
I have also grown creatively - taking time to honor what I have been cultivating within - I am now releasing these energies to print and paint - to pages and people.
I love to grow! I am glad to focus on this aspect of my life today.
As I end this reflection, I think of one of my favorite exchanges in the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare. I will leave below for you to also enjoy.
DUNCAN: I have begun to plant thee, and will labor To make thee full of growing. Noble Banquo, That hast no less deserved, nor must be known No less to have done so, let me enfold thee And hold thee to my heart.
BANQUO: There, if I grow, The harvest is your own.

Gratitude:
I am so thankful for these last few years and how I have grown in many ways! I am thankful for my personal growth in areas of body, mind, and spirit. I am truly grateful for my ambition to grow my own greens. Most of all, at least most of all for now because it is so very new for me, I am also thankful for the courage I have had to step up and grow my self creatively.
