Explore

We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.
— ― Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

For me - the word explore brings up ideas and images of grand adventures. I think of packing my knap-sack and heading off into the light of the rising sun. This term connotes newness and openness. I think of an explorer as one who learns - one who gathers information - maybe even a map maker.

I understand too - that while there is an outer world to explore, there is also the world within. Ah - so many vast frontiers. I delight in the thoughts of discovery - but will be careful today not to jump ahead.

Today - I will be focused on the act of exploring. I will set out mindfully with the eyes, ears, hands, nose, tastebuds and the heart of an explorer - moving from my safest sanctuary of yesterday’s retreat I move out.

Gratitude:

I am so thankful for my ability to explore and for all of the explorations I have experienced. I am thankful for the time and mindset I take to explore not only the world around me and all of the beauty without, but the universe within and the beauty that resides therein. Today, I will intentionally explore.
